Time for another character feature: this time one of the major bad guys – Ralph Ellis. He's an associate of Patrick's from years back, and not one who Patrick would choose to be particularly 'associated' with, given the choice! Ellis is an outright bully with a military background (and not a particularly distinguished one at that!) Patrick finds himself fighting alongside Ellis during the battle in Shropshire. Given the history the two have, this doesn't really create a situation conducive to camaraderie in the field! In the aftermath, of course, Patrick escapes. Ellis switches sides and agrees to assist in the pursuit of his old enemy, along with his side-kick and crony, Mooney.
A tall man with blonde hair, a thin build and sneering-type features, Ellis isn't the sort of person you'd want to meet in a dark alleyway. Inevitably, his dislike for Patrick leads to further conflict as they come face-to-face again. The tension between the two characters, evident early on the book, eventually boils over and further conflict takes place. Some old scores will be settled here!
Enough said about Ellis for the time being! One thing I'm aiming to do (as mentioned last week) is to put some 'sample' scenes in the blog – ones which are composed especially for posting here and which won't feature in the novel itself. Well, I've been thinking a little more about this and I've decided that I will try to write one or two of these scenes sooner rather than later, and feature them here for you to read and give feedback on. After all, in the time it takes for me to write a post (which appears to be once a week at present!), I could also be writing a scene to go in said entry. So what the heck! I'll give it a try!
Watch this space – these posts may well be featuring some of the characters I've already talked about on this site. It'd definitely be a good opportunity to get some feedback on my writing (provided there's anybody out there willing to read it of course!)
Until the next feature…..
