Location Feature – Llew’s House in Llanberis

Another video location feature for you – Llew's House (apologies for the sound quality again, bloody wind!)

Okay, there’s not actually a house here! But that’s because this is fictional location for Llew’s future roundhouse. It’s a raised area of land between Castell Dolbadarn and the Royal Victoria Hotel, which has the look of an old Dark Age fort to it. (The site was known to have military usage since the 6th Century, though the castle goes back to the 13th. I suspect this was part of the fortress).

In the book, I’ve envisioned Llew living in partial solitude at this location, within striking distance of the Dragons’ main fort and the Mayor’s residence in Llanberis. So, while he’d still be able to have social contact with others as required, at least he’d also be able to ‘escape’ here and spend time with the birds-of-prey in his aviary (being a keen ornithologist), meditate and reflect.

It’s a really nice spot. I really liked the standing stones that were kept here as well. Pity about the graffiti left by the ‘friends of humanity’ who obviously visited previously, presumably with no good reason! Somehow, I don’t think Llew would be very impressed by the scrawl!
