Location Feature – Llanberis, Snowdonia (North Wales)

Okay, a bit of an apology is in order! There's not been a post on here for a week, and this partly due to other commitments as well as illness (still!)

Anyway, here's the last of the current run of video location features. A briefer one this time, as it was rather a busy day to be stood in the centre of Llanberis filming! This is part of the Llanberis Pass that runs through the village (on an old railway line, funnily enough). What you can see in the background to start with is the Royal Victoria Hotel, which was built here originally to service the old line.

It appears frequently in Dragon Line as the future residence of the directly-elected Mayor of Llanberis, Tewdur. Llanberis becomes an eco-industrial-agrarian commune in the book's scenario, a broadly self-sufficient capital of the 'Dragons' with direct democracy.

As the camera pans round in the other direction, you get to see towards the visitor centre for Dinorwic Power Station – 'Electric Mountain'. This features in the novel as well, but with an entirely different use to what it is now…

I hope to be able to return there in the near future and do some more filming in the area for the location features. However, in the meantime, I'll be doing something slightly different on the blog. I'm reading this excellent book at the moment about possible outcomes of the combined effects of Climate Change and Peak Oil. It's so good (and appropriate), I'm going to do a review on when I've finished it.

Look out for that soon! In the meantime, if you'd like to know some more about Llanberis, check out the links below:
