At last, some more location features! This one is Rorrington Hillfort (Rorrington, Shropshire). Well, I say hill-fort – the access to this site is actually very easy as there's a nice gentle footpath from the nearby road at Bromlow Callow. No uphill stuff! Here, you see the eastern ramparts of the small fort from the 'Rorrington Trail' that goes through here.
The reason for including this site is because in the novel, its another fort that's rebuilt – and a very important penultimate scene takes place here! The location is very near to Mitchell's Fold, one of the first sites to be featured (check out the video for that location here). As another important event takes place here as well, the two sites are linked. Remember the character feature on Gaz? This is the place which he commands – obviously it's much more of a stronghold in the fictional future than it is now! Patrick and his band come here during the final part of their quest for assistance. They also end up facing a major challenge in the process.
With any luck, the whole of the novel should be available on Authonomy and as a down-loadable e-book sometime in the near future, so you may not have very long to find out what happens.
In the meantime, if you are ever in this neck of the woods, the place is worth a visit. Bear in mind, the fort itself is not open access so you can pass through here on the footpath (like me) but you shouldn't go onto the site itself without permission.
Stand-by for another instalment of the Rorrington Hillfort location feature in the near future, plus that promised book review…
