I have a new direction for the blog tonight. You may have noticed that I've added some links in the side bar to sites relevant to Peak Oil and Climate Change. If you have an interest in these subjects (and I reckon everyone should!), then these sites are worth checking out. 'The Oil Drum' has some very academic articles about the Peak Oil issue, while 'Life after the Oil Crash' has some excellent information on the subject.
As these sites feature regular articles on these subjects, I thought it might be good to point you in the direction of a few that might be of interest. The one linked to here tonight I found on LATOC the other day. Its by a guy called Paul Craig Roberts and is entitled 'The Year America Dissolved'. It appears that Dr Roberts was once a member of the US Federal Government, so he appears to speak with some authority.
His prediction for 2017 (or the scenario he presents) is one where America breaks down into regional 'fiefdoms' controlled by 'clans' led by the former local Police departments. This follows a period of prolonged economic and political breakdown due to the financial crisis and presumably energy decline (ie 'peak oil' etc). Washington itself becomes an irrelevance in this situation. In many ways, it reminds me of the situation in Afghanistan. America a 'failed state' too?
What I like about this article is that it puts me very much in mind of the sort of scenario for Britain depicted in 'Dragon Line'. Is this the future we face? I very much hope not!
