Greetings and Happy New Year from Owen Law!
Well, here we go – another new year to get through. Well, I’ve already been busy. I’ve decided to go for a revamp for Dragon Line. Seeing as it’s 305,000 words long and over a 100 chapters, I’ve had a rethink about its current format. I believe there is enough in there for two novels, so I’ve decided to split it.
To be fair, I had considered this before but didn’t think it was going to be possible. I was a little worried that it might affect the integrity of the story and also cheat the reader if I was to separate it into two books. Well, after a conversation with a work colleague who (to cut a long story short) had had a conversation with a published writer, it transpired that publishers won’t usually consider anything longer than 150,000 words due to the expense. Then I had a discussion with my partner about a suitable place to end the first book without cheating the reader. She reckoned, from what I told her, that it might work.
So, I thought, what the heck – may as well relent! So that’s what I’m working on the moment – a draft of the first book. Watch this space, I might be self-publishing it as an e-book to start with.
Also, I’ve created a new blog detailing my goals for the year and my strategy for overcoming my fear of failure. Its called ‘My Fail-Safe Strategy‘. I’ve written it in my own name and you can check it out here.
By the way, while I’m at it here’s a good article from today’s Daily Mail by Max Hastings: 2012 offers Britain great hope. Whilst being a great analysis of the current perils facing the international community, the outlook for this country is actually quite good. Owen Law starting the new year with something upbeat? Surely not!
Until the next time
